New tools

This weekend was the first time our church worshipped in our brand new worship center. Let me tell you, it's been a long time coming, and it is INCREDIBLE! God has definitely blessed us with a powerful tool for ministry.

Up until now, we've been meeting in our carpeted gym. Concrete block walls and a square room make for lousy acoustics. Now we've got twice the seating, a "cadillac" sound and lighting package, and great acoustics. Everybody I talked to was amazed by the clarity (which means our mistakes can be heard now... gotta practice more :-).

Anyway, there is a lot of functionality and versatility in the new facility, and we are all praying we can take advantage of it in effective ways. Exciting times, these. Here are some pictures:

This is the view from a back corner. We have two huge projector screens, with rear mounted projectors so there isn't something dangling down from the ceiling. There are about 1400 seats in the auditorium, and they are served by three stages of speakers: front fills built into the bottom of the stage, main hanging speakers, and time-delayed speakers pointing at the rearmost seats.

This is the view from the stage looking out. You can see the "clouds," the panels on the ceiling that reflect sound, as well as the sound-absorbing panels on the back wall. Instead of a projector pointing at the back wall, the singers get to look at a couple of big flat-panel monitors.

Here's a view of the sound and a/v desk. From left to right: board and computer for controlling the lights, computer for running projector video (production is downstairs), sweet digital soundboard (Yamaha M7CL), and then the rack of sound gear.

Other cool stuff:

  1. Cafe area - espresso, baked goods, and cold drinks for sale, with couches and tables.
  2. Green room - practice and preparation area for worship team, equipped with a small sound system.
  3. Video production area - we tape services and they are played on local access cable for three of the nearby townships.
  4. Recording studio - this isn't fully equipped yet, but we have a soundproof room, as well as the capability of recording from the green room for larger choirs.
  5. An escalator (how cool is that?) - a lot of the parking is two levels down from the main worship center.
  6. More classrooms - there are an additional 8-10 classrooms (I'm not exactly sure).
Anyway, we are all really stoked about what the Lord can do with this new facility. Already on the agenda are a fall concert series (Family Force 5, Caedmon's Call, Big Daddy Weave, and Kutless) and some conferences.
